Here i come..

Here i come Mount Kinabalu!!..
akhirnya hari yg dinanti2 semakin hampir..
sabtu ni kami akan bertolak ke sabah..
it has been my dream to one day conquer Mount Kinabalu..at last, MARC member from UTM step forward to organized the event and invited me as UTM alumni to join the program..

i just recover from my flu and cough this week..
did not train since my last race Powerman 2009..
just hope i can reach the summit..
i start to read blogs that post bout mount kinabalu hiking experience..some say they got headache when reaching the summit (altitude sickness)..some say they can't stand the cold wind which make me a bit nervous but i just get even more excited to begin my outdoor journey to Sabah..

As you can see, there are 2 trails going up and down Mt. Kinabalu. According to our tentative, we're going to take the Mesilau trail, which is 2 KM longer than Timpohon route.

After the Hiking, we're going to do water rafting at Sg. Padas..

Things to bring (quick tips):

Laban Rata to Low's Peak

It is a night climb, usually cold and windy. So, warm clothes is essential. It reaches below 5°C at the peak!
-Torchlight. Headlight is better as most of the time you have to hold the rope in the dark.
-Balaclava mask. It will protect your face from the cold wind.
-Gloves.Waterproof gloves is best. It will protect your hands from rope burn and cold.
-Wind breaker or jackets, long sleeves shirts, thick trousers/cargo pants, thick socks and good shoes.
-500ml water bottle. The only place to refill you bottle is at Sayat-sayat Hut.
-Raincoat.
-Some light foods.
-Camera with enough memory cards or film and batteries.
-Waist pack is handy at this time as you could keep your camera and raincoat inside.

hi jiha - i was at Low's Peak july this year, and I'll tell you the feeling is sensational. You seemed to be geared to go - just enjoy the trip and have fun! You will need some good socks tho. Check my report at http://iamsyah.blogspot.com/2009/07/mount-kinabalu-report-11-july-2009.html

Best of luck!

o btw, I brought some asam boi to replace ORS. It was agreed by our trusted guide, Sigol that the asam helps to cool the cramps at bay. Just my 2 cents worth... :)
